Development of insulin pump on schedule
The development of the new innovative internal insulin pump DiaLin is on track. The prototype is technically ready in terms of design and components. Intensive work is underway to complete the bench testing phase and start preclinical testing before 1 May 2019.
Bench testing is a critical phase in the evaluation of the insulin pump before it can be implanted to ensure that it is in perfect working order. In addition, so that it can be used safely, a number of steps must be passed before a drug or medical device is approved by government agencies. Each step must be successfully completed and the results found positive. After the successful completion of the various steps, the pump will be ready for use in the human body in the second half of 2019.
Compared to the old pump, the Dialin pump is smaller and more ergonomic in design, making it suitable for implantation in children and very slim people. In addition, major technical improvements have been made that will qualitatively improve the lives of Sytske and her fellow sufferers.
It appears that in the meantime, the manufacturer of the current pump, after consultation with the Sytske Foundation and IPaDiC, will make a number of backup pumps available for emergencies.
The Sytske Foundation remains in close contact with IPaDiC, the company that is developing the new internal insulin pump DiaLin. We will keep you regularly informed regarding developmental progress.
